Whether as LGU project or an individual one, the point is to plant!
“You cannot protect the environment unless you empower people, you inform them, and you help them understand that these resources are their own, that they must protect them.” – Professor Wangari Maathai
Today, our environment is in a terrible state where global warming has arrived and the effects are already devastating. We are continuously experiencing different natural calamities brought about by the cruelty of our self-created disasters.
We wanted change so much that we build different advocacies and campaigns against illegal logging, kaingin, and other different activities that can harm our environment.
We cry out loud for the government to address the logging situation. So, the Local Government Unit of Pamplona headed by Municipal Mayor Arnie Angelica P. Sampaga, conducted a synchronized municipal-wide tree planting last October 5, 2016 with the theme “Sama-samang magtanim ng puno kasabay ng pagkabuhay ng alaala, diwa at mgaadhikain ni Hon. Aaron P. Sampaga sa bawat mamamayan ng Pamlona. Aasenso Pag Sama-sama”. The said activity served as a tribute to the late Hon. Aaron P. Sampaga who spearheaded series of tree planting during his incumbency involving students, civil society organizations, Barangay officials and LGU officials in response with the national greening program.
The convergence of four different agencies; Local Government Unit of Pamplona, Department of Environmental and Natural Resources – Sanchez Mira, Department of Environmental and Natural Resources – Apayao, and Department of Agriculture – Abulug, came up and gave 5,000 seedlings to be planted to different schools and barangays of Pamplona.
This tree planting activity in response to Ecological Protection and Conservation Program aims to improve the environment, prevent soil erosion by wind or water, provide habitat and food for wildlife, and conserve energy.
Tree planting is the process of transplanting tree seedlings, generally for forestry, land reclamation or landscaping purposes. Tree planting is grounded in forest science, and it performed properly can result in the successful regeneration of deforested area.
In connection with the theme, this tree planting activity was also conducted so that every Pamploneño will always remember the numerous accomplishments in the delivery of social services and implementation of infrastructure projects that the late Hon. Aaron P. Sampaga was done during his term as the Municipal Mayor.
